Why Living in the Mountains is the Way of Life

If you’ve always wanted to live in a peaceful, relaxing place with picturesque scenery and tons of privacy, then you may want to consider moving to the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Just imagine waking up in the morning and opening your window to that crisp mountain air, limitless sky, and overall breathtaking view of the natural landscape surrounding your home. It would certainly take some of the sting out of waking up in the morning, wouldn’t it?

While some people may have only been able to dream about living in this idyllic setting in the past, with remote work becoming more commonplace living in the mountains of BC is more accessible than ever. If you need more reasons to make the move yourself, let’s look at why living in the mountains is the way of life.

Year-Round Outdoor Activities

Some people may think that living in the mountains would be boring, as you don’t have the many entertainment options nearby that you would normally have in a city. This may be true for some people, but if you’re the outdoorsy type (and you probably are if you’re thinking about mountain living!) then you will find no shortage of activities to do all year long in and around the mountains.

You can explore the mountains and all its beautiful surrounding scenery while mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, rafting, camping, paragliding, and fishing. Or, if it’s winter sports you’re after, then you will love the skiing and snowboarding opportunities that come along with mountain life. BC, for example, is home to one of the most famous ski resorts in the world, Whistler Blackcomb, but it also has other excellent mountains for skiing and snowboarding, such as Cypress Mountain, Mount Seymour, and Grouse Mountain.

Connect with Nature

This is probably one of the biggest draws of mountain life for many people. Since there tends to be significantly less buildings and people around than in the city, the wonders of nature really thrive up in the mountains. You’ll notice different kinds of wildflowers and other plants that you’ve never seen before, and you may even catch a glimpse of the various wildlife that call the mountains home.

One of the best places to appreciate the beauty of the natural world is the Sea to Sky Highway in BC.  This 377km highway cuts through some of BC’s most interesting historical sites and awe-inspiring scenery, such as Cypress Mountain, Porteau Cove, and Shannon Falls. And, if you want to get an even closer look at those mountains, then you can head up above the treetops on the Sea to Sky Gondola to get a bird’s eye view. It’s certainly a unique opportunity that you just won’t get anywhere else.

There’s always something new to discover in the mountains, which provides the perfect excuse to step away from the technology that dominates many people’s lives and reconnect with nature. You likely won’t be sorry that you did.
